Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement explains how Cooljackal LLC ("Cooljackal", "we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with this website (cooljackal.com). Privacy and security are core to how we build products, and the same philosophy shapes this website: we collect little, we ask before we set anything on your device, and we do not track you across the web.
Who we are
Cooljackal LLC is the data controller responsible for the limited information described below. We are a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of Oregon, United States. For privacy questions or requests, contact us at privacy@cooljackal.com.
1. Information we collect
We do not run accounts on this site, and we do not build advertising profiles. What we do collect falls into four narrow categories.
- If you email us or use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, and the contents of your message, along with anything else you choose to include. The form is protected by a bot check, and your message is delivered to us by email — it is not stored in a database on this site.
- If you allow analytics, we collect pages viewed, clicks, referring page, approximate location derived from your IP address, browser and device type, and page-performance measurements. Section 3 describes this and the choice you have.
- If you decline analytics, we still count the visit, but without cookies and without storing anything on your device beyond the record of your answer. Visits are attributed to an identifier that rotates daily, so we cannot recognise you from one day to the next.
- Our hosting provider automatically logs standard technical data — such as IP address, browser type, and the pages requested — for security and operational purposes. We do not use this data to identify you.
We do not knowingly collect special categories of personal information (such as health, biometric, or financial account data), and we ask that you not send such information to us by email.
2. How we use information
We use the limited information above only to:
- respond to and manage your enquiries;
- understand which pages get read, so we can improve them;
- operate, maintain, and secure the website; and
- comply with our legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, we do not participate in any advertising network, and we do not sell, rent, or monetize your information.
Where the EU or UK GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for analytics, on our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site for hosting logs and bot protection, and on our legitimate interest in responding to you for correspondence.
3. Analytics, cookies, and storage
We use PostHog to see which pages get read. Nothing is captured until you answer the banner — before you choose, there are no cookies and nothing in your browser's storage.
If you accept, PostHog sets a cookie and stores a small amount of data in your browser so it can recognise the same visitor across pages and return visits. It records pages viewed, clicks, and page-performance measurements.
If you decline, PostHog sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. We still count the visit, but it is attributed to an identifier that PostHog derives on its servers and rotates every day, so a returning visitor looks like a new one.
Either way, we store one item in your browser to remember the answer you gave. Without it we would have to ask again on every page.
You can change your answer at any time using the "Analytics" link in the footer of any page. Withdrawing consent removes the analytics cookie.

We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not participate in any advertising network.
4. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour both. If your browser sends a Do Not Track header, or signals Global Privacy Control, we treat that as a refusal of analytics: no analytics cookie is set and no identifier is stored on your device. You can still choose to allow analytics using the footer link, and that later, more specific choice takes precedence.
5. Hosting and third-party services
The website is hosted on Google Firebase Hosting (Google LLC), which processes the technical/log data described above on our behalf in order to deliver and secure the site. Its handling of that data is also governed by Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
We also use the following providers, each acting on our behalf:
- PostHog (PostHog, Inc., United States) for the analytics described above. Analytics data is sent to PostHog's US-region cloud and processed there under a data processing agreement and its privacy policy (posthog.com/privacy). We do not sell this data, and PostHog does not use it for its own advertising purposes.
- Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., United States), whose Turnstile service distinguishes people from bots on the contact form.
- Resend (United States), which delivers contact-form messages to us by email.
- Google Calendar (Google LLC), which supplies the free time slots shown on our availability page. That page reads our own calendar; it does not read yours, and it collects nothing about you.
Because these providers operate in the United States and other regions, information described in this statement may be processed outside your home country. Where required, we rely on our providers' standard data-processing terms, including the European Commission's standard contractual clauses where those form part of them.
Apart from these providers, we share information only where required by law or legal process, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), subject to this statement.
6. Data retention
We retain email correspondence for as long as necessary to maintain our business records and to meet our legal, contractual, and audit-related obligations. Because such correspondence may be required for these purposes, we may retain it indefinitely. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider on a rolling basis for security and diagnostics and are then deleted or aggregated.
Analytics events are retained by PostHog for one year and are then deleted. Because analytics data is not linked to your name or email address, we generally cannot connect it to you.
7. Security
We serve the site over encrypted HTTPS connections and limit access to any information you send us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information we hold about you, and you may object to or restrict certain processing. Depending on where you live — including under the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act — you may have additional rights, including the right to lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority. We do not sell or share personal information.
Where we rely on your consent — as we do for analytics — you may withdraw it at any time using the "Analytics" link in the footer, and withdrawing is as easy as giving it was.
One limit is worth stating plainly: if you declined analytics, we cannot identify your data in order to act on a request about it, because the rotating identifier described in section 3 is designed so that nobody — including us — can tie those events back to a person.
To make a request, contact us at privacy@cooljackal.com; we may need to verify your identity before responding, and we aim to respond within 30 days.
9. Children's privacy
The website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
10. Changes to this statement
We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time — for example, if we change or add a provider. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and we will revise the "Last updated" date accordingly. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to highlight them.
